Impact Task: From Extreme Weather Phenomena to Impacts with AI

This new Impact Task aims to connect extreme weather observations and forecasts with real-world impacts using artificial intelligence. The goal is to build harmonized impact databases and AI models that translate weather and climate information into impact forecasts across timescales—from daily weather to weeks, seasons, and long-term Impact under changing climate and future scenarios. The task supports climate adaptation at national (KISS2030), European (EU Mission Adaptation), and global levels (UNFCCC COPs), while also addressing the growing ESG data needs of companies and investors. By integrating climate and impact data through AI, Finland can take a leading international role in developing next-generation impact forecasting and deliver significant scientific, societal, and economic cost-benefit analyses to support decision making.
