Painting science in Helsinki was an initiative by street artist Maikki Rantala and University of Helsinki researcher Stephany Mazon from the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research INAR in 2019. Atmospheric scientists were invited to co-create visual climate change related messages. Illustrations were designed by Maikki Rantala and cut into stencils. Then scientists, residents, students and activists were invited to join the collaborative workshops together in different urban locations around Helsinki. In addition to painting on the streets side by side residents were able to ask researchers questions related to climate. In 2025, many of the paintings are still visible in the city landscape.
In COP30, we invite you to make your own art stamp. You can make a post card, or bring your own paper to stamp on. Welcome to join us at the Finland pavilion on Wednesday 12 November at 18-20 at the Science Night by the University of Helsinki and Aalto University.
