Viime vuosina sit\u00e4 on kuitenkin pyritty valottamaan Helsingin yliopiston ja Ilmatieteen laitoksen yhteisty\u00f6n\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4kaupunkiseudulla toteuttaman laajan mittauskampanjan avulla, osana Suomen akatemian ja Strategisen tutkimuksen neuvoston rahoittamia CarboCity- ja CO-CARBON-hankkeita. Tuoreissa tutkimuksissa paneuduttiin nurmikoiden ja niittyjen ilmastovaikutuksiin sek\u00e4 maaper\u00e4n hengitykseen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kasteltu nurmikko ja runsasravinteinen niitty osoittautuivat hiilensidonnaltaan tehokkaimmiksi, kun vertailtiin kasteltua ja kastelematonta nurmikkoa sek\u00e4 ravinteisuudeltaan eritasoisia niittyj\u00e4. Runsasravinteisen niityn havaittiin my\u00f6s olleen hiilensidonnan osalta huomattavasti kastelematonta nurmikkoa vastustuskykyisempi kuivuutta vastaan. Maaper\u00e4n hengitys puolestaan osoittautui yll\u00e4tt\u00e4v\u00e4n samansuuruiseksi, kun vertailtiin erityyppisilt\u00e4 puustoisilta kaupunkiviheralueilta ker\u00e4ttyj\u00e4 mittaustuloksia.
