ACCC Director, Academician Markku Kulmala has been elected as council member of The World Academy of Sciences<\/a> (TWAS) for 2023-2026. TWAS, founded in 1983, is a network working to advancement of science in the developing countries. The council is elected by members every four years and it is responsible for supervising all Academy affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new president of the council is world-leading AIDS researcher Quarraisha Abdool Karim from South Africa. The council consists of 16 members. The new council is the first one to have an equal amount of male and female members. Professor Kulmala is the only representative of the Global North<\/a>\u00a0in the council. Kulmala is an Adacemician, Professor of Aerosol and Environmental Physics at the Institute of Atmosphere and Earth System Research (INAR) at the University of Helsinki and amongst the most highly cited researchers in his field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACCC:n johtaja Markku Kulmala maailmanlaajuisen TWAS-neuvoston j\u00e4seneksi<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACCC:n johtaja, akateemikko Markku Kulmala on valittu maailmanlaajuisen The World Academy of Sciences<\/a> (TWAS) -neuvoston j\u00e4seneksi vuosiksi 2023-2026. TWAS, suomeksi Maailman tiedeakatemia, on perustettu vuonna 1983 ja sen teht\u00e4v\u00e4 on toimia tieteen edist\u00e4miseksi kehittyviss\u00e4 maissa. Verkostoon valitaan uusi neuvosto joka nelj\u00e4s vuosi ja se vastaa TWAS:in asioista kattavasti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neuvoston uusi johtaja on maailman johtaviin AIDS-tutkijoihin lukeutuva Quarraisha Abdool Karim (Etel\u00e4-Afrikka). Neuvostoon kuuluu 16 j\u00e4sent\u00e4. Uudessa neuvostossa on ensimm\u00e4ist\u00e4 kertaa mukana yht\u00e4 paljon naisia ja miehi\u00e4. Kulmala on ensimm\u00e4inen suomalainen edustaja neuvostossa. Markku Kulmala on akateemikko ja ilmakeh\u00e4tieteiden professori Ilmakeh\u00e4tieteiden keskuksessa (INAR) Helsingin yliopistolla sek\u00e4 yksi alansa siteeratuimpia tutkijoita.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
